Schneiderman, (Rachel) Rose (1884–1972)

Polish-born labour leader and social reformer. Emigrating to the USA as a child, Schneiderman worked sewing cloth caps in her early teens. She helped to organize a New York chapter of the United Cloth and Cap Makers, and was the first woman to be elected to the board of any American labour organization. In1905 she joined the Women's Trade Union League (WTUL), becoming its president in 1926. Her work for the WTUL included campaigning for female suffrage.
