Schoharie County

County in east-central New York State; area 1,616 sq km/624 sq mi; population (1990) 31,600. Its capital is Schoharie (population (1990) 1,000). The county is overwhelmingly rural and agricultural. Dairy and market gardening, haymaking, fruit orchards, and poultry raising are all important. There are several noted underground caves, including Howe Caverns.
