Scholes, Paul (1974– )| English footballer. A goal-scoring midfielder, he made his full England debut in 1997. Born in Salford, he joined Manchester United as a trainee, and made his full professional debut in the 1994–95 season. In his early years he played as a striker, but since the 1997–98 season played with great success in an attacking midfield role, and has helped his club win more than ten trophies. He retired from international football after the 2004 European Championships having scored 14 goals in 66 appearances. |
