Schonberg, Harold (1915–2003)

US critic and writer on music. He studied in New York and was a critic with the New York Sun (1946–50), and the Times from 1950 (he was senior critic 1960–80). He won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism, in 1971. He published Great Pianists (1963, revised 1987), Great Conductors (1967), Lives of Great Composers (1970, 1981), Classical Music's Legendary Performers (1985), and Horowitz, his Life and Music (1992).
