Schreier, Peter (1935- )

German tenor and conductor. He sang as a choirboy in Dresden during the war, where he made his adult debut in 1959. He sang at the Berlin Staatsoper from 1963, and in 1966 he made his London debut, as Ferrando. In 1967 he made his first appearances at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, Salzburg, and the Vienna Opera. Among his roles have been Tamino, Sextus, Loge, Don Ottavio, and Belmonte. He was widely admired in lieder and in the Bach Passions. From 1969 he was active as a conductor.
