Schuhplattler

Bavarian country dance with music in moderate 3/4 time similar to that of the Ländler (folk dance in three time). The dancers are men only and they strike their palms on their knees and soles.

CAPTION(S): Bavarian Schuhplattlers perform a traditional dance during the opening ceremony before the Germany-Costa Rica game
I particularly liked choreographer Michael Lichtefeld's Austrian courtship dance for Dashiell Eaves and Zelle, based on the thigh-slapping Schuhplattler, which supposedly originates from the wing-flapping mating dances of birds.
According to the brewery, the Stratton Mountain Boys are famed for their shows, which feature bell-ringing, schuhplattler dancing, alpine horns and singing saws.
