Schulz-Beuthen, Heinrich (1838–1915)

German composer. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory, taught at Zurich 1866–80, at Dresden 1880–93, in Vienna 1893–95, and at the Dresden Conservatory from 1895.

Aschenbrödel (text by Mathilde Wesendonk, 1879), Die Verschollene, and three others.

Orchestral and stage

Christmas play Die Blume Wunderhold; eight symphonies (no. 6 on Shakespeare's King Lear); symphonic poems on Schiller's Wilhelm Tell, on Böcklin's picture ‘The Isle of the Dead’, on Grillparzer's Des Meeres und der Liebe Wellen and others; two suites; two scenes from Goethe's Faust, serenade and other works for orchestra; piano concerto; wind octet, string quintet and trio; two sonatas and pieces for piano; numerous songs. Requiem, six Psalms and other choral works;
