Schunk, Robert (1948– )

German tenor. After study in Frankfurt he sang with the Karlsruhe Opera (1973–75). He appeared at the Bayreuth Festival from 1977, as Siegmund, Erik and other Wagner roles. He sang Strauss's Emperor in Die Frau ohne Schatten/The Woman with no Shadow at Hamburg (1981), and Weber's Max at the 1983 Bregenz Festival. He performed in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House (1986–87), as Siegmund and Florestan. In 1989 he appeared with Munich Opera, as the Emperor, and Vladimir in Prince Igor.
