Schuylkill County

County in east-central Pennsylvania; area 2,025 sq km/782 sq mi; population (1990) 152,600. The capital and largest community is Pottesville. In the Allegheny Mountains, the county is heavily forested; coalmining is important.

The Schuylkill River flows through it from north of Pottsville.
