Schwabe, Carlos (1866–1926)
| Swiss painter, born in Germany. A Symbolist, he painted works of almost hallucinatory precision, in which the colours are fierce and the imagery is often erotic or morbid. Most typical of his works are The Virgin of the Lilies 1899 and Death and the Grave Digger 1895–1900. |
