Schwarz, Gerard (1947– )

US conductor and trumpeter. He played the trumpet in the American Brass Quintet (1965–73), and studied at Juilliard School, New York (1969–72). He was musical director of the Waterloo Festival at Stanhope, NJ, from 1975, and became its principal conductor in 1986. He directed the New York Chamber Symphony (1977–86) and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (1978–86). He was music director of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra from 1986, and conducted Beethoven's Fidelio for Seattle Opera, in 1991.
