Schweigsame Frau, Die

Opera by Richard Strauss (libretto by Stefan Zweig, based on Ben Jonson's Epicoene), produced in Dresden on 24 June 1935. The story begins as Henry returns home to his uncle, Sir Morosus, who hates music and noise. Henry hopes to receive an inheritance, but is instead disowned because he has joined a band of singers. He gets revenge, tricking Morosus into marriage with ‘Timida’, the noisy Aminta in disguise.
