Schweitzer, Albert (1875–1965)Protestant theologian, organist, and missionary surgeon. He founded the hospital at Lambaréné in Gabon in 1913, giving organ recitals to support his work there. He wrote a life of German composer J S Bach and Von reimarus zu Wrede/The Quest for the Historical Jesus (1906). He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1952 for his teaching of ‘reverence for life’ and for his medical and other work in Africa. How to thank TFD for its existence?
