redfish

Marine bony fish found in the North Atlantic. It is of a nearly uniform orange-red colour. The eggs of the redfish are fertilized internally, but are retained for only a short period before being released in large numbers at a very early stage of development.

Classification

The redfish Sebastes marinus is in the order Scorpaeniformes, class Osteichthyes.

The redfish is known by many names, including Norwegian haddock, red-fish, hemdurgan, red-perch, rose-fish, and red-snapper.
