Scialoja, Vittorio (1856–1935)

Italian jurist and statesman. He became minister of justice in the second ministry of Sonnino (1909–10), minister without portfolio in the Boselli and Orlando Cabinets during World War I, and of foreign affairs under Nitti (1919–20). He was the Italian representative at the peace conference, 1919, and as minister of foreign affairs he assisted in framing the Covenant of the League of Nations. Scialoja was minister of state in 1927. He wrote many works on law, especially Roman law.

Scialoja was born in Turin, Italy. He studied at the University of Rome, and became professor of Roman law at the universities of Camerino (1879), Siena (1881), and Rome (1884).
