Sciarrino, Salvatore (1947– )

Italian composer. He is best known for his operas, which take an irreverent view of the conventions of the genre, filtering familiar myths through a surreal sensibility.

He studied electronic music at Rome in 1969 and began teaching at the Milan Conservatory in 1974.

Amore e Psyche (1973), Aspern (1978), Vanitas (1981), Lohengrin ‘azione invisible’ (1983), Perseo e Andromeda (1991).

Orchestral

Sonata da camera for orchestra (1971), variations for cello and orchestra (1974), Clair de Lune for piano and orchestra (1975), Kindertotenlied for soprano, tenor, and chamber orchestra (1978), two string quintets (1976, 1977), violin concerto (1985), two piano trios (1975, 1986).
