Scimone, Claudio (1934– )

Italian conductor and musicologist. After study with Franco Ferrara, he founded the ensemble I Solisti Veneti. He has toured throughout Europe and the USA performing 18th-century repertory and modern Italian works and has made many recordings.

Scimone was a teacher of the Verona Conservatory 1967–74, and director at Padua from 1983. He has issued an edition of Rossini's works and recorded the opera Zelmira (1990). Other recordings include Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso and La Cetra by Marcello. He conducted Il barbiere di Seviglia at Caracalla in 1992.
