Scissor Sisters

    0.07 sec.

Scissor Sisters

US retro glam rock band. They became popular in the UK for their tongue-in-cheek style, retro upbeat rock music and theatrical live shows. Their self-titled debut album, featuring the hit single ‘Take Your Mama’, was a major commercial and critical success in 2004.

Members of the band, which evolved from New York's burlesque nightlife and gay culture, are Jake Shears (born Jason Sellards) on vocals, Ana Matronic (born Ana Lynch) on vocals, Paddy Boom (born Patrick Seacor) on drums, Del Marquis (born Derek Gruen) on guitar, and Babydaddy (born Scott Hoffman) on bass and keyboards. The group achieved their first hit with a disco-inspired, falsetto remix of the Pink Floyd single ‘Comfortably Numb’ (2003), which earned them a Grammy Award nomination and a deal with record label Polydor in the UK. They went on to tour with musical acts such as Elton John, the B-52s, and Duran Duran.

The band's debut album was the UK's bestselling album of 2004, and the band went on to win prizes for best international group, album, and breakthrough act at the 2005 Brit Awards. Shears and Babydaddy also wrote the Kylie Minogue hit ‘I Believe in You’ (2004). Other Scissor Sisters singles include ‘Mary’ (2004) and ‘Filthy/Gorgeous’ (2005).
