Scone

Site of the ancient Scone Palace (destroyed in 1559), near the village of New Scone, Perth and Kinross, where many of the Scottish kings were crowned on the Stone of Destiny. The coronation stone was removed to Westminster Abbey, London, by Edward I in 1297, but was returned to Scotland in 1996 and is on display at Edinburgh Castle.

The Stone of Destiny was removed without permission from Westminster Abbey by four students on Christmas Day 1950 and was kept at Arbroath Abbey until April 1951.
