Scott, Thomas A(lexander) (1823–1881)

US railroad executive. In 1859 Scott became vice-president of the Pennsylvania Railroad. During the Civil War he was made assistant secretary of war, in charge of government railways, troops, and munitions transportation. In the early 1870s he became president of the Pennsylvania Company, the Union Pacific Railroad, the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, and the the Texas & Pacific Railway Company.
