Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art

Edinburgh gallery housing the Scottish national collection from 1900 to the present day, founded in 1960. It comprises the most concentrated collection of international modern art in Britain outside London, together with a representative display of modern Scottish art. The collection is especially rich in sculpture, with works by Bourdelle, Moore, Arp, and Giacometti. The permanent collection is constantly supplemented by temporary exhibitions.

Among the major artists shown are Utrillo, Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Rouault, Kirchner, Nolde, Jawlensky, Ernst, Magritte, Nicholson, Nash, and Sutherland. Scottish painters represented include Samuel Peploe, Anne Redpath, and William Gillies.

The gallery is one of the three National Galleries of Scotland, administered by one director under a single board of trustees; the National Gallery of Scotland and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery are also in Edinburgh.
