Scotto, Renata

Scotto, Renata (1933– )

Italian soprano. She studied in Milan, making her debut at the Milan National Theatre, in 1953. In 1957 she sang Violetta and Donna Elvira in London, and replaced Callas as Amina in La sonnambula, at the Edinburgh Festival. From 1962 she appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, and from 1965 at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. Other roles included Adina, Lucia, Norma, and Lady Macbeth.
