Scutum

Small constellation of the southern hemisphere, represented by a shield. It lies in the Milky Way, which in this region consists of uniform clouds of faint stars.

It was named ‘Scutum Sobieskii’, ‘the Shield of Sobieski’, to honour John Sobieski, King of Poland, after his victory over the Turks 1683.
