Seabrook

Town in southeastern New Hampshire, on the Atlantic Ocean and the Massachusetts border, 21 km/13 mi southwest of Portsmouth; population (1990) 6,500. It is the site of a Public Service Company of New Hampshire nuclear plant (1990).

Settled in 1638, Seabrook has been a boat and shoe manufacturing town. The nuclear plant, sited on saltmarshes to the northeast, opened 11 years behind schedule, after years of protest by environmentalists and area residents.
