Seaford

Resort in East Sussex, England, 13 km/8 mi west of Eastbourne on the South Downs; population (2001) 22,800. The Seven Sisters chalk cliffs are nearby.

Seaford was once the outlet for the lower River Ouse and an important port, but in 1570 a great storm shifted the course of the lower Ouse westwards, resulting in the development of a new port, Newhaven.

Seaford

City in southwestern Delaware, on the Nanticoke River, 23 km/14 mi west of Georgetown; population (1990) 5,700. Du Pont first produced nylon here in 1939, and Seaford is a nylon industry centre.

Other industries have included canning, oyster packing, and shipbuilding.

Seaford

Community in Hempstead town, southeastern New York, on Long Island's south shore, 40 km/25 mi east of Manhattan; population (1990) 15,600. It is almost entirely residential. The Tackapausha Nature Preserve is here.
