toolbar

In computing, area usually at the top or side of a screen with push-buttons and other features to perform frequently used tasks. For example, the toolbar of a paint program might offer quick access to different brushes, spray cans, erasers, and other useful tools. ‘Floating’ and ‘smart’ toolbars have become more common, where a toolbar only appears when a relevant object is selected and can be repositioned at will. Some programs enable users to create their own custom toolbars to suit their specific purposes.
