Searcy

City and administrative headquarters of White County, east-central Arkansas, 72 km/45 mi northeast of Little Rock, near the Little Red River; population (1990) 15,200. The economy is based on livestock, poultry, eggs, strawberries, and light manufacturing.

A popular 19th-century spa known as Sulphur Springs, the city later developed as an agricultural centre, with cotton and timber production. Harding University (1924) is here.
