Seaton, John Colborne, 1st Baron Seaton

Seaton, John Colborne, 1st Baron Seaton (1778–1863)

British general. He served in the La Coruña campaign. He afterwards fought with Wellington, and was wounded at Ciudad Rodrigo, Spain. He also took part in the battle of Waterloo. In 1838 he put down the rebellion in Canada. He was the governor of the Ionian Islands (1843–49). Seaton was promoted to the rank of general in 1854 and field-marshal in 1860. He was commander-in-chief of the forces in Ireland 1855–60.

He was made baron in 1839.
