Sebastian (1554–1578)| King of Portugal 1557–78. He succeeded his grandfather John III. Ambitious of martial glory, he led an expedition in Morocco in 1578 to support the claims of Muhammad, the usurper. Like Muhammad, Sebastian perished in the Battle of Alcazarquivir. |
