Sechter, Simon (1788-1867)

Bohemian-Austrian theorist, organist, and composer. When the Italian musician Domenico Dragonetti was in Vienna in 1809, Sechter wrote piano accompaniments for his double bass concertos. In 1825 he succeeded Vořišek as court organist, and in 1850 became a professor at the Vienna Conservatory.

He settled in Vienna in 1804 and continued his studies there. In 1812 he became a teacher of piano and singing at the Institute for the Blind. He wrote several theoretical works.
