The position of a motherboard within a computer's system unit. The motherboard contains the central processing unit, random access memory (RAM) chips, read-only memory (ROM), and a number of expansion slots.

Printed circuit board that contains the main components of a microcomputer. The power, memory capacity, and capability of the microcomputer may be enhanced by adding expansion boards to the motherboard, now more commonly called a mainboard.
