Secundus, Johannes (1511–1536)

Dutch humanist poet. Amongst the range of Latin poetry that he wrote in his career, the most influential were his love lyrics Basia/Kisses which worked off the classical poets Horace and Catullus.

He was private secretary to the archbishop of Toledo in Spain, and he accompanied the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V to Tunis 1534.
