Sedd-el-Bahr

Turkish village in the Gallipoli peninsula on the north side of the entrance to the Dardanelles.

It is of great strategic importance because of its position and had been fortified by the Turks since the 17th century. In World War I, it was the site of several Allied landings and the scene of heavy fighting to establish a beachhead and supply dump 1916.
