Sedgwick County

County in south-central Kansas; area 2,608 sq km/1,007 sq mi; population (1990) 403,700. Its capital and largest city is Wichita. Other cities are Derby, Haysville, Valley Center (population (1990) 3,600), and Park City (population (1990) 5,100). A plains county, it grows wheat and raises cattle, and there are some oil and natural gas fields. The aircraft industry in and around Wichita is important.
