Seefried, Irmgard (1919–1988)

German soprano. After her first engagement at Aachen (1939–43) she joined the Vienna Staatsoper; in 1947 she sang with the company at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, as Fiordiligi and Susanna. Other roles included Eva, Ariadne, Judith, and Marie. She was well known as a Mozart singer, and as a performer of Lieder. In 1948 she married the violinist Wolfgang Schneiderhan. She made her last stage appearance at Vienna in 1976, as Káta Kabanová.
