Sega

Japanese games console and software manufacturer. Sega's best-known games character is ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’. In 2001 Sega ceased production of games consoles, including the widely marketed Dreamcast console, to concentrate solely on the software market. The company went on to develop games for other consoles such as the Nintendo Gamecube, Sony PlayStation2, and Microsoft X-Box, as well as for 3G mobile phones and personal digital assistants.

Sega originated in Standard Games, a company founded in Hawaii in 1940, which moved to Tokyo in 1951 to become Service Games (Sega) of Japan. The company began by producing coin-operated games for the US forces stationed in Japan.
