Segovia, Andrés (1893–1987)

Spanish virtuoso guitarist. He transcribed Johann Sebastian Bach for guitar and Ponce, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, de Falla, and Villa-Lobos composed some of their best-known music for him. Segovia's artistry did much to rehabilitate the guitar as a concert instrument and to promote the music of Spain. He taught lutenist Julian Bream and guitarist John Williams.
