Seine-St-Denis

Département in the Ile-de-France region of France to the northeast of Paris; area 236 sq km/91 sq mi; population (1999 est) 1,382,900. It was created in the administrative reforms of 1964. It comprises the northeastern section of the Paris suburbs, with a large proportion of social housing. There are motor-vehicle industries and office employment, as well as intensive farming, in the area. Seine-St-Denis is crossed by major road and rail links, and contains the Charles de Gaulle Airport at Roissy-en-France. The administrative centre is Bobigny.
