Selective Service Cases

Several US Supreme Court cases (including Arver v. US, 1918) dealing with the right of Congress to enact a mandatory military service law during wartime. The Court voted unanimously to uphold the Selective Service Act, the World War I conscription act. The decision was based on a judgement that the right to establish a military draft is implied in the Constitution in Congress's authority to declare war and maintain an army.
