Senn, Marta (1958- )

Swiss-born mezzo-soprano. She studied in the USA, and sang Carmen for the Washington Opera in 1982. She appeared further with the New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. In 1984 she performed at La Scala, Milan, as Rosina and in the title role of Rossi's Orfeo. She has sung Massenet's Dulcinée at Barcelona, and Annius (La Clemenza di Tito) and Angelina (Cenerentola) at the 1988 Salzburg Festival. She was best known as Carmen, singing the role at Munich, Stuttgart, and Paris (Opéra Bastille, 1994). Other roles included Charlotte, Salud in La Vida Breve, and Rossini's Isabella.
