Sept-Iles

City in southeastern Québec, Canada, 534 km/332 mi northeast of Québec City, on the Gulf of St Lawrence; population (1991) 24,800. It is the administrative and service centre for the region, a transshipment point for ocean trade, and (since the 1950s) a shipping outlet for the mineral and iron ore deposits of Nouvelle-Québec and Labrador. Salmon fishing and hunting are also important.

It was built on the site of a 17th-century trading post.
