Service, John Stewart (1909-1999)

US foreign service officer. Service was raised by his missionary parents in China, where he worked for the US foreign service, 1933-45. He was dismissed for passing documents to the leftist journal Amerasia (1945) and was late reinstated by the US Supreme Court. From 1962 he taught at the University of California, Berkeley.
