Seto

City in Aichi prefecture, central Honshu island, Japan, 20 km/12 mi east of Nagoya; population (1990 est) 129,400. Ceramics, including porcelain, have been produced in the city since the 13th century. Seto is the largest ceramic-producing centre in Japan, making a range of associated products including electric insulators, toys, tableware, and household pottery.

Seto Park has a chinaware monument to Kato Shirozaemon, who is reputed to have founded the local ceramics industry. The city is also the home of the National Ceramic Experimental Station.
