Severodvinsk

City and seaport in Arkhangelsk oblast (region) of the northwestern Russian Federation, 40 km/25 mi north of Archangel; population (1996 est) 239,000. Severodvinsk lies on the White Sea at the mouth of the Northern Dvina River. It has industries manufacturing metal goods, building materials, foodstuffs, and furniture. Timber is a major export commodity.

Severodvinsk is one of the main submarine bases for the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy.
