Sex and the City

US television series aired 1998–2004 on the cable channel Home Box Office (HBO), starring US actor Sarah Jessica Parker (1965– ). A comic look at the dating scene of New York single women in their thirties, the series earned several Golden Globe and Emmy awards and enjoyed popular success throughout its run.

The series was based on the novel and New York Observer newspaper column of the same name by US writer Candice Bushnell (1959– ). Parker starred as sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw, who explored a different theme for her column each episode. Her trio of sexy thirty-something friends provide most of her data while letting loose in Manhattan's trendiest clubs, restaurants, stores, and galleries, sporting the latest fashions. They include Emmy-winner Kim Cattrall (1956– ) as publicist Samantha Jones, Kristin Davis (1965– ) as sweet and innocent museum curator Charlotte York, and Cynthia Nixon (1966– ) as assertive lawyer Amanda Hobbes.

The series enjoyed international success and was credited with establishing major fashion trends.
