Shakopee

City and administrative headquarters of Scott County, southeastern Minnesota, on the Minnesota River, 29 km/18 mi southwest of Minneapolis; population (1990) 11,700. Soft drinks are manufactured here.

Named after a local Sioux chief, the site was settled around 1850. Sioux burial mounds are located in the city's Memorial Park. There is a state reformatory here and the Valley Fair amusement park is nearby to the east.
