Shamokin

Shamokin

City in east-central Pennsylvania, on Shamokin Creek, 19 km/12 mi southeast of Sunbury; population (1990) 9,200. It is a mining centre and also produces textiles, machinery, meat products, and fertilizer.

Shamokin Dam (population (1990) 1,700) is in Snyder County, across the Susquehanna River from Sunbury and the mouth of Shamokin Creek.

Conrad's first job was with The News-Item of Shamokin, Pa.
