Shannon Airport

Customs-free airport for transatlantic flights in County Clare, Republic of Ireland, 26 km/16 mi southwest of Ennis. A large industrial estate and centre for the Irish aerospace industry is located here. A new town was developed here to house workers; population (2002) 8,200.

The estate in the customs-free area includes aeronautical industries, engineering firms, electronics industries, computer-software developers, the manufacture of industrial components and equipment, plastics, chemicals, industrial diamonds, and household goods, and a variety of service industries, including telemarketing.
