Shapero, Harold (Samuel) (1920– )

US composer and pianist. His music includes elements of jazz and serialism.

He studied with Nicolas Slonimsky at Boston 1936–38 and with Ernst Krenek (1900–1991) and Walter Piston (1894–1976) at Harvard. He was appointed professor of music at Brandeis University in 1952 and founded an electronic music studio there.

Symphony for Classical Orchestra (1947); On Green Mountain for jazz ensemble (1957; version for orchestra 1981); Studies for piano and synthesizer (1969).
