Shapey, Ralph (1921–2002)

US composer and conductor. He studied with Stefan Wolpe and conducted a youth orchestra in Philadelphia 1938–47. He was founder and musical director of the Contemporary Chamber Players at Chicago University in 1954; and was professor of music there from 1964.

Orchestral and chamber music

Invocation, violin concerto (1959), double concerto for violin, cello, and orchestra (1983); Symphonie Concertante (1985), Concerto for piano, cello, and strings (1986); seven string quartets (1946–72); Trio for violin, cello, and piano (1992).
